Scripture Meditation for Holy Week (Monday)

holyweek

Today is day 2 of Holy Week and I would like the share Scripture Meditation for Monday, March 21. Again, this is not from my own design but from the book, “The Final Days of Jesus” by Andreas Kostenberger and Justin Taylor (page 23).

Jesus curses a fig tree (Matt. 21:18-19; Mark 11:12-14)

Jesus cleanses the temple (Matt. 21:12-13; Mark 11:15-18; Luke 19:45-48)

Questions For Thought:

  1. Why does Jesus curse the fig tree?
  2. What is the fig tree a symbol of?
  3. Why was Jesus so upset as he entered the temple?
  4. Why were the Pharisees upset at the “wonderful” things that Jesus was doing in healing the blind and lame?

Scripture Meditation for Holy Week

holyweekAs we approach Holy Week, I have been reading a book entitled, “The Final Days of Jesus” by Andreas J. Kostenberger and Justin Taylor. In this book they discuss the final days of Jesus’ life and ministry and the most important week of the calendar year. It is a great read and well worth the price! One of the things that is included in the book is a Scripture Guide To The Events of Holy Week. Over the next seven days I want to share the Scripture meditations for that specific day.

There is a rich tapestry of historical detail, literary, artistry, and theological insight to be gleaned from the Gospel accounts of Jesus’s final week…

As you read through these daily meditations, may you be able to worship Jesus and focus on Him this Easter season.

SCRIPTURE GUIDE TO THE EVENTS OF HOLY WEEK: Sunday
