Talking Baseball Devotional

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
                                                                           Proverbs 3:5-6, ESV

Speaking in baseball terms when a player hits a double, it usually doesn’t just mean that player has good speed. It is a combination of speed and power. If you had to guess who has led the Major Leagues in doubles since 2004 who would you guess? Some may say Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez all of which are great guesses. The correct answer would be Brian Roberts of the Baltimore Orioles, I know some of you reading this are shocked that Baltimore still has a baseball team! Brian Roberts from 2004-2009 hit 278 doubles and broke the Major League record for a switch hitter with 56 in 2009. He is one of only 4 players to ever accomplish this feat. The other three are Stan Musial, Paul Warner and Tris Speaker, all of whom are in the Hall of Fame.
But what is even more impressive about Brain Roberts is the name of his charitable foundation called “Proverbs three five and six”. Proverbs 3:5-6 is Brian Roberts favorite verses. And if we trust God with all of our hearts, not relying upon ourselves and acknowledge Him in everything, then God will guide us through life. That is such an amazing truth, that God desires for us to trust Him, to follow Him and to acknowledge Him. Let me challenge you today to memorize Proverbs 3:5-6 and make them a part of your daily life.
